Literature Text

What in the world is happening to you?! Where are you? Was it that path you took, the "wolf" path?

Running your tongue over your extra long canines once more, you suddenly shake your head, denying what you can't comprehend is happening.

Placing your hands on the ground, the sharp claws sinking into the soft earth, you quickly pull your legs under and get to your feet.  You glance around, trying to find the path that brought you to the clearing, hoping you can leave before whatever was howling arrives.  But the trees surrounding you seem unbroken.  Fear and anxiety are swamping your senses and panic is urging you to flee, so you take a step towards the edge, no longer caring if there is a path or not.

But with that first step, you are instantly aware once again of the coarse hair that has sprung up all over your body, brushing against itself between your legs.  You try to ignore it but a sudden cramping in your feet causes you to trip, your shoes flying off as you fall to your knees.

As you catch yourself on your hands, you notice that your palms feel much less sensitive, as if a puffy layer is protecting them from the grass and sharp bits of rock and twigs.  Lifting one hand, you hold it up to the moonlight and are shocked to see thick, dark calluses grown at the top of your palm, which is thinning and lengthening as your watch!  The heel of your hand is stretching back, dragging your thumb along, and you suddenly notice your digits are shrinking, the fingers shortening and growing dark pads as well!

Another twitch in your feet causes you to blink, switching focus from one extremity to the other.  A tingling seems to start at your toes and race up your legs, popping at your knees and causing you to straighten them out a bit.  You can't seem to bend them enough to kneel anymore!  Blinking, you realize your butt is not as high in the air as it should be in such an awkward hands-and-feet position, and you realize that your thighs and shins are rapidly shrinking, while your foot stretches as your heel travels upwards.  Your back is suddenly level and you are balanced on the balls of your feet and hands!

This CAN'T be happening!  You have to get out of there!!

A single howl breaks the silence of the night, jolting you into action.  Lurching forward on all fours, you realize it is surprisingly easy to move now that your arms and legs are the same length! You quickly move into a lope towards the forest, but only make it a couple yards before sharp, grinding pain and heat envelope your joints at your hips, shoulders and the base of your skull.

Twisting in agony, you collapse to the ground, rolling onto your side as you feel your shoulders and hips *POP* and slide, flattening the ball-and-socket joints and rotating your pelvis under.  You try to hug yourself to block out the pain, but you can't seem to move your wrists and elbows inward as easily, and your less-flexible knees refuse your efforts at a fetal-position.  The grinding continues as you feel your spine sliding up to exit more at the back of your head, pulling your face up away from your torso.

A final *POP* is heard and you feel a new sensation as an appendage sprouts from the base of your spine, itching and tingling certainly signaling the arrival of more fur to cover it.

Gasping as the pain subsides, a sudden thankfulness for skirts adds a hiccup to your almost-sobs.  Panting, your jaw gapes open and you pull great gulps of air into your lungs.  Your tongue seems to fill your mouth, and you let it loll out a bit to get more air, the grass under your cheek tickling it's long, flat expanse.  You twitch your nose at the smell of your own breath, and, opening your eyes you realize you can SEE your nose twitching too!  A long muzzle has sprouted, pulling your jaw out with it while you were trying to ignore the pain in your joints!  You can see the moisture shining on the black tip, where your nostrils are flaring as they take in the newly noticed smells of the clearing around you.

A twitching atop your head also calls your attention to your pointed ears, which are now also covered in coarse fur and have slid upwards a bit, not pinned to the ground as one should be.  Your hair, which had previously been growing rapidly, seems to have fallen out or shrunk back in, as all you can feel is short fur under your head.

As your breathing evens out, you gingerly raise your head, cautious lest a new pain should suddenly again shoot though your body.  Your COMPLETELY CHANGED body!  You twist your neck and can see down the length of yourself, taking in dark black fur peeking from your now-loose clothing.

Sighing, you rest your head once more and try to figure out what to do next...

Faykate, this is very good reading. All the while as I read I could feel something inside wishing I could change. For to many years I've been hung up on the things I wrote today in my Bio. ,your writing is so smooth filled with visions as I read. you have a fan. I by no means can write to were someone might have visions. I wish I would have meet you before today, I would have loved help in saying something for the first time. I tried to describe why I had become who I was, but I was not sure how to describe the bright future I am working and looking for. I know I am broken but it was never my fault, and I never wanted to be angry of be filled with hate. I really think as I enjoy Deivant art more and more with each day, that should any soul wish to try and befriend me, they should know the why...................sorry I can go on, so boringly, I think it is the kind smile that is your avatar that has me saying word after word. If I misread please forgive me......I know I am worth something, I try so hard, I just do not know how to say who I am............. xc
